Evaluation Of 2D Mechanical Marvel

Evaluation
In this part of the project i was required to create a new type of mech/robot. I started the project by creating a mind map of all things i could think of that were mechanical, whether singular words or real life examples, i then proceeded to try and link a few words to create a type of robot, for example, i looked at things like whether it would be controlled by a person, or programmed, its style whether fighting or domestic and its purpose. I then looked at already existing robots to try and gather inspiration or ideas. After my initial research i then starting doing very basic, thumbnail drawings  to try and get a numerous amount of basic shapes for my robot. After the thumbnails i then picked a few that i liked and developed them further increasing their size on the page and then adding detail or parts where ever i thought it would work. After finishing some initial ideas i tried to come up with a back story for each that matches the shape and the way it looked, helping me narrow down my ideas and remove some of them from my options. The reason i chose the one i did was because of the simplicity of the shape of it at the time, it allowed me to come up with a range of different ideas about what i could do with it, as originally it looked sort of like a pogo-stick with a body and arms, which i then developed by adding a story and mechanical parts that i liked the look of, for example tank treads. Overall i was quite pleased with my overall drawing as i thought it looked simple but could have a range of different purposes. some things i wasnt happy with was the time consumption making the tank treads, due the amount of detail and having to get the shape right it mean that i spent a big bulk of my time creating it leaving me less time to finish the main body. Another thing i didn't like was trying to make it look right in the drawing as i tried to make my shaped look 3D and it was a struggle with the angle it was at. So what i thought i could have done better was manage my time as if i didn't spend so long on one part i could have focused on other parts i struggled with. As for my  process for this part of the project, i thought it was pretty good as it allowed me to look at every detail and gain the exact thing i wanted to create. Also the wide range of research that i did gave me a wide range of ideas that i could play around with until i created something that i liked. However, my main method of actually doing the drawing was Photoshop which is convenient and useful but i need to look at other options which will help improve my overall art skill.
