Contextual Studies:Software In the game industry

Software in the game industry
In the game industry there are a variety of different software packages that are used, and these change depending on the type of game studio. Triple A studious often use tools such as 3Ds MAX, Maya, Mudbox, Z-brush, Sketchbook, and other drawing tools. As for Independent Games studious and Independent artists they are often limited by the costs of software and usually start off using the cheapest option then upgrading when possible. As for software in the industry as a whole the most common software used are:
Adobe Photoshop/ Illustrator
Adobe After Effects
Adobe Flash for UI, animations, etc.
Z-Brush
3D's Max
Maya
Mudbox
Sketchbook
Comparisons between different software
Zbrush + Mudbox
The common argument about these two is which one is better and the common answer is that they both have their advantages
Mudbox:
People believe it has better texturing and a simpler interface that takes a very little amount of time to learn
Zbrush:
People believe that is better for sculpting than Mudbox by far but is much more complicated to use and its texturing abilities are not very good
Maya + 3DS MAX
Maya: Some animators believe it can handle a higher level of complexity, some also believe it fits much better for organic modelling, it is good for character rigging and animation superimposing, people also believe Maya is more user friendly

3DS MAX: Has a lot of smaller tools that help the job get done quicker, people believe there are better plugin renderers available, more precision tools, optimised for architectural visualisation
